Paused worlds
Why a shared world pauses, what still works while it's paused, and how the owner brings it back. Nothing is deleted while a world is paused.
For App · browser and desktop · Updated
A shared world pauses when its owner's plan doesn't cover it any more. It's a pause, not a delete: everything is still there.
Why it pauses
- The plan ended: the free trial is over, or a cancelled plan ran out.
- Too many worlds: the owner's plan keeps fewer worlds live than they share, for example after a change to a smaller plan. The others pause.
Before a plan ends, the owner sees a banner, for example "Your free trial ends tomorrow. After that your shared world pauses (nothing is deleted)."
What still works
- Everyone can open the world, look around and export the plan.
- Nobody can edit together. The top bar says Paused · view only, and a banner says why.
- Nothing is deleted: the world files, the plan, the members and their roles stay.
Under Shared worlds on the start screen, a paused world says paused. In Minecraft, the mod doesn't draw it: Paused worlds in the mod.
Bring it back (owner)
Plan ended: pick a plan
Press See plans in the banner or in Plan together, and pick one. More: The plans.
Too many worlds: choose which stay live
Press Choose which stay live in the banner, or in Account under Plan. In Which worlds stay live?, tick the worlds you want and press Save. Without a choice, the oldest stay live. Need more at once? Or upgrade. More: Live worlds.
The world comes back by itself as soon as the plan covers it. Everyone connected goes back to editing together.
It's a friend's world
Only the owner can bring it back. The banner says "This world is paused" with the owner's name. You can still look around and export, and nothing is lost while you wait.
Tip
Payment didn't go through? The owner sees "Your last payment … didn't go through" with Update card. Update the card by the date the banner shows to keep planning together.
