Invite friends and pick their roles
Create invite links for your shared world, choose who may change the plan and who may only look, and change roles later in the People list.
For App · browser and desktop · Updated
An invite link brings a friend into your shared world with the role you picked. You can change it any time.
Pick a role
In Plan together (Collaborate or Invite in the top bar), find 2 · Invite people. Choose the role for everyone who uses the link: Editor, Viewer (view only) and, on plans with co-owners, Admin (co-owner).
Create the link
Press Create invite link, then Copy invite link. Send it the way you like, in a chat or a message.
A link works for 7 days and 10 people. Make as many links as you need, for example one for editors and one for viewers.
Your friend joins
Your friend opens the link. It says who invited them, to which world, and with which role, and that joining is free. They press Sign in to join (free), then Join. Next they pick their block textures: Textures for friends.
Roles
| Role | What they can do |
|---|---|
| Owner | The person who shared the world. Their plan sets the world's limits. Everything an admin can do, plus: updates the world files, makes admins, stops sharing. |
| Admin (co-owner) | Changes the plan, creates invite links, changes the roles of editors and viewers, removes them, ends the live session for everyone. Only on plans with co-owners. |
| Editor | Changes the plan with everyone, live. |
| Viewer | Looks around and follows along, live. Can't change anything: the top bar says View only. |
- Only the owner makes someone an admin. Admins can't change or remove other admins.
- A link made for an admin turns its people into editors when the owner's plan has no co-owners.
- Everyone can export the plan.
Tip
Viewer and wants to help? The panel says "Ask the owner to make you an editor to change things."
Change a role
In Plan together, the People list shows everyone in the world, with here (with a green dot) next to who's in it right now. Owners and admins pick a new role next to a name. It applies at once.
Switch off a link
Under 2 · Invite people are the links that still work, with their role, how many people used them and until when. switch off stops one. Someone who opens it then sees "This invite link was switched off. Ask for a new one."
When a link doesn't work
- "This invite link has expired." or "This invite link has been used up.": ask for a new one.
- "This world is full.": the world has as many people as the owner's plan allows. See Limits of shared worlds.
