Browser or desktop app
The same planner runs in your browser and, soon, as a desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux. What each one does, and which to pick.
For App · browser and desktop · Updated
It's the same planner in both. Plans, shortcuts and invite links work the same way. The desktop app saves you some dragging and dropping.
What's different
| Browser | Desktop app | |
|---|---|---|
| Get started | Open app.mc-planner.com. Nothing to install. | Install it once for Windows, macOS or Linux. |
| Your game file | You drop the .jar once. This browser remembers it. | Looks for it in the usual folders of the official launcher, Modrinth App, Prism, MultiMC and CurseForge. Not found? Drop it, like in the browser. |
| Your worlds | Drop the world folder or a .zip. Recent worlds are kept in this browser. | Lists your worlds and opens them in place, straight from your saves folder. No zipping. |
| When Minecraft saves | Drop the world again to see the new state. | A banner says "Minecraft saved changes to this world." Press Reload map. Your view stays where it was. |
| Plan files (Ctrl+S) | Downloads a .mcplan file. | Saves it to Documents\MC Planner. Show in folder opens it in Explorer or Finder. |
| Updates | Always the newest version. | Asks before it updates: Install now or Install on next launch. |
Both only read your world. Neither changes your save.
Which one to pick
- Just trying it, or on someone else's computer: the browser.
- Planning a lot, and building in between: the desktop app. It always opens the newest save of your world.
- The Minecraft mod works with both. Its plan files are the
.mcplanfiles you save with Ctrl+S, see plan files in the mod.
Get the desktop app
Coming soon
The desktop app is almost ready. The download page shows it as soon as it's out. Until then, the same planner runs in your browser.
Once it's out:
- Windows: run the setup file. It installs for you only, no admin rights needed. Windows may warn about an unknown publisher until the app is signed. Choose More info, then Run anyway.
- macOS: open the
.dmgand drag MC Planner to Applications. If macOS says it can't check the app, open System Settings → Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway. - Linux: make the AppImage executable and run it, or install the
.deb.
The app keeps itself up to date. When a new version is out, it asks whether to install it now or the next time you open it. Help (?) → Check for updates looks right away.
