Why schematic files are never shared
Builds belong to their creators. MC Planner never uploads schematic files, so the plan keeps only a fingerprint and the source link, and each friend gets the file from where it came from.
For App · browser and desktop · Updated
A schematic is someone's work. MC Planner shows it on your map, but never passes the file on, not even to your friends.
What the plan keeps
Your plan, and every copy of it (a shared world, a .mcplan file), keeps only:
- the file's fingerprint, so MC Planner can tell when someone has the same file,
- its size and the way it's turned and mirrored,
- its material list,
- the source link: the page it came from.
The blocks themselves stay in the file, and the file stays in your browser. MC Planner never uploads it to a server.
How friends get the file
They see the building
In a shared world, friends see your schematic building as a plain box, with its size, its material list and the source link.
They download it from the creator
They select the building and click the link, or open the Schematics panel (7): under Used in this world, but not on this computer each missing file has Get it. They download it from the original post, like you did.
They import it
They import the file in the Schematics panel, or press Import the file… on the building. Same file, same fingerprint: the building shows with its blocks, by itself.
Always add the link
Without a source link, friends see "no link" and have to ask you where the build is from. Add it when you import, or later with + add source link or the pencil in My schematics.
In Minecraft
The mod works the same way: it looks for your own copy of the file on your computer, by its fingerprint, and only reads it. Nothing is uploaded. Where it looks: Why the file has to be on your computer.
Good to know
- Removing a schematic from My schematics doesn't remove the buildings in your plan. They show as a plain box until you import the file again.
- A different file with the same name doesn't count: only the same content has the same fingerprint.
- Respect the creator's rules from the original post, for example when you build it on a server.
